This is one of my favorite pictures of an awesome deck system we designed and constructed. Such a great outdoor space. The owners had been dreaming of replacing an aging two level deck system and expanding the deck system space to allow for more space for friends and family gatherings and to enhance the shaded outdoor living space and garden environment which was already existing. The deck system features the Trex® Transcend Island Mist line of decking and fascia system materials. Benches for seating and keeping an existing tree intact were very important to the owner so we designed and constructed custom bench systems and also framed in a tree well around the existing tree with room from growth. The owner filled the tree well with some nice 1/2" smooth gray and black stone that looks great.
A second area of the deck, which once expanded was nearly 700 square feet of fantastic outdoor living space, was enclosed with a continuous bench system rather than a railing system for extra seating and to provide the grandkids with an awesome launch pad system. The original deck system that wrapped around to this side of the home was much smaller and built at the door level of the existing two level deck that was much smaller. In creating this new deck system we brought the entire deck system to one level and created stoops finished in the Trex® Transcend Island Mist decking at each entrance. There are two separate access points to the deck from a family and dining room area to this pictured larger space and a main access from the existing kitchen area to the above pictured deck area.
Because of the expansion of this deck system, which also included removing an existing post that was blocking view from a large window looking out onto the deck and outdoor living space, we created a drain system for the existing gutter downspout to drain into and a piping system that carried the water away from the deck and distributed it on the down slope of the hill this existing home was built upon.
